On behalf of the Baviaanskloof Bewarea NPC, Living Lands invites applicants to apply for the role of Junior Operations/Site Manager in the Baviaanskloof.
The Baviaanskloof Bewarea NPC is a local not-for-profit company that works to serve the Baviaanskloof Hartland Conservancy. The Baviaanskloof Bewarea NPC works towards the implementation of activities contributing to holistic catchment management. These activities can relate to a wide variety of subjects such as: ecology, conservation, agriculture, tourism, empowerment and training.
The advertised position will be within the Baviaanskloof Bewarea NPC which is managed by Living Lands.
Role Description
The primary function of the position is to assist in the management and coordination of the on-the-ground implementation of the ecological rehabilitation activities. This includes erosion control, revegetation, invasive species control, regenerative agriculture, game management and fire management, amongst other work. It is your task to oversee daily activities and operations on the ground: you will need to get your hands dirty and work with multiple teams of general labourers.
The role requires minimal administrative work but is fundamentally a role that will be conducted ‘in the field’ (i.e. it is not an office job). The successful applicant must be willing to get up early in the morning and braai until late at night, work in harsh weather conditions and be excited about it all. This role carries potential for employee growth and learning in a dynamic conservation and agriculture environment.
Key Responsibilities and accountabilities

Overseeing all physical implementation work by the Baviaanskloof Bewarea.

Lead and coordinate field teams

Physically work with field teams on the ecological rehabilitation / regenerative agriculture / game management activities;

Engage and build trust with local stakeholders, including farmers, community members and workers through a strong work ethic.
Requirements
In general, potential candidates must have a strong interest in veld management, game management and alternative agriculture approaches. The following criteria apply:

A qualification or Diploma in Agriculture or Nature Conservation or 1-2 years experience.

A valid Code 8 driver’s license and own car appropriate for driving on farm roads. A Code 10, valid Professional Driving Permit and motorcycle license is beneficial

Fluency in Afrikaans and English is essential

From/based in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa

Must be able to relocate to the Baviaanskloof
